Summary

Age of Myth inaugurates another six-book series set in Elan。

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal。 But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever。

Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people。 The Age of Myth is over。 The time of rebellion has begun。

Love returning to MJS’ world! This book has a pretty easy-to-follow-and-figure-out plot, but it was an interesting story and full of great characters。 There was also a cool twist at the very end! This book stands alone really well, but also sets up the series, so I’m definitely going to check out the next book。 I can’t wait to learn more about this world and these characters!

Perfectly serviceable, very readable genre fantasy。 Not especially original and, because the worldbuilding was done by condescending characters, I felt occasionally condescended to in the early chapters。 It's patriarchal fantasy in the European tradition; you can only take so much out of it。 But the worldbuilding was also very clear, and I got invested in the characters。 It's also a nice enough audiobook but, as is often the case in male-read audiobooks, I think the women would have read differe Perfectly serviceable, very readable genre fantasy。 Not especially original and, because the worldbuilding was done by condescending characters, I felt occasionally condescended to in the early chapters。 It's patriarchal fantasy in the European tradition; you can only take so much out of it。 But the worldbuilding was also very clear, and I got invested in the characters。 It's also a nice enough audiobook but, as is often the case in male-read audiobooks, I think the women would have read differently to me if I'd been reading it with my eyes。 Overall, certainly entertaining enough that I quickly took out the second book in the series to continue listening。 。。。more

Ugh, it's been a while since I started but did not finish a book。 In this one, there are too many characters and events introduced too soon before I cared about any of it。 I couldn't follow what was going on either。 I have loved this book reader in the past, but couldn't bear his imitation of a young girl's voice in this one。 It grated on me。 Also, the experience of trying to listen to this book and deal with car-passenger anxiety at the same time was overwhelming。 We quit listening on the third Ugh, it's been a while since I started but did not finish a book。 In this one, there are too many characters and events introduced too soon before I cared about any of it。 I couldn't follow what was going on either。 I have loved this book reader in the past, but couldn't bear his imitation of a young girl's voice in this one。 It grated on me。 Also, the experience of trying to listen to this book and deal with car-passenger anxiety at the same time was overwhelming。 We quit listening on the third or fourth cd。 I'm not going to give the book a rating since we didn't finish it。 Maybe I'll return to this series when I can read this book as a hard-cover book on my own。 I like his other series。 Now, we're on to a book that's easier to slide right into。 。。。more

A bit of a rehash of his previous characters, but simple/straightforward/entertaining! Not going to talk about this book much, but also casually enjoyed it。

Great prequel to the other books, but kind of hard to remember how it fits into the world I already know。 LOVE these characters。

Wow I was not expecting to love this so much, of course I wanted to like it but I set the bar low since I had not heard to much about it and then I was blown away。 I am obsessed with these characters and this world it was so damn good that i cant form coherent thought about it so I'll just say。。。。 damn this was a good book and you should go read it now while I move on to book 2。 Wow I was not expecting to love this so much, of course I wanted to like it but I set the bar low since I had not heard to much about it and then I was blown away。 I am obsessed with these characters and this world it was so damn good that i cant form coherent thought about it so I'll just say。。。。 damn this was a good book and you should go read it now while I move on to book 2。 。。。more

There were a couple things about this book and his world building that I didn’t love quite as much as his other series the Riyria Revelations, but overall really enjoyed it。 It took me a little bit to get through the first third of the book but two days to get through the last two thirds cause once the story got established I got pretty hooked。 Also I initially tried listening to this book on audio。 The cast is larger than in the Riyria Revelations and there were a lot of different point of view There were a couple things about this book and his world building that I didn’t love quite as much as his other series the Riyria Revelations, but overall really enjoyed it。 It took me a little bit to get through the first third of the book but two days to get through the last two thirds cause once the story got established I got pretty hooked。 Also I initially tried listening to this book on audio。 The cast is larger than in the Riyria Revelations and there were a lot of different point of view characters。 As an introduction to the book it was a little overwhelming and I didn't get very far before deciding that I probably needed to read it。 Other than being a little slow to start (which maybe had something to do with establishing so many characters at once) I didn't have any problem reading it。 I personally have just found that some more complex reads require my full attention rather than my more passive attention。 Anyways。 I am now finishing the second book and now am familiar enough with the cast and world building that I don't think I would have a problem following it on audio。 。。。more

I'll just say this is definitely the kind of high fantasy that doesn't particularly tickle my fancy。 I got through it, not sure I can push myself through the rest of the books in this series since I didn't find the series as interested as I'd hoped。 I'll just say this is definitely the kind of high fantasy that doesn't particularly tickle my fancy。 I got through it, not sure I can push myself through the rest of the books in this series since I didn't find the series as interested as I'd hoped。 。。。more

“Fools believe silence is a void needing to be filled; the wise understand there's no such thing as silence。” I haven’t been reading a ton of high-fantasy books lately, but really wanted to give this one a try。 Even though it isn’t my go-to genre anymore, this was really great and I also like knowing that the author wrote all the books at once so that the pacing and story arcs work throughout the series。 I think I will end up picking the rest of the books up whenever I’m in a fantasy mood nex “Fools believe silence is a void needing to be filled; the wise understand there's no such thing as silence。” I haven’t been reading a ton of high-fantasy books lately, but really wanted to give this one a try。 Even though it isn’t my go-to genre anymore, this was really great and I also like knowing that the author wrote all the books at once so that the pacing and story arcs work throughout the series。 I think I will end up picking the rest of the books up whenever I’m in a fantasy mood next。 。。。more

Age of Myth is an average read, the plot and universe are typical of the fantasy genre but overall, a pleasant and enjoyable experience。

A book with a lot of violence and death (so much I'm usually not used to books), but still incredibly exciting, atmospheric, mysterious, sometimes even really funny (especially the team Raithe + Malcolm)。And even if you think you know what will happen next, it remains unpredictable through ever new secrets and twists。 Lots of great characters: everything from lovable to loathsome (Minna = love)。 I look forward to following the characters and the story even further in the next parts。 A book with a lot of violence and death (so much I'm usually not used to books), but still incredibly exciting, atmospheric, mysterious, sometimes even really funny (especially the team Raithe + Malcolm)。And even if you think you know what will happen next, it remains unpredictable through ever new secrets and twists。 Lots of great characters: everything from lovable to loathsome (Minna = love)。 I look forward to following the characters and the story even further in the next parts。 。。。more

I really enjoy Sullivan’s writing。 It’s fast-paced, adventurous, and filled with compelling characters。 I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of this series。

In a word, Fantastic。 I love the setting, the characters are well crafted and feel real。 The action sequences flow very well, and the prose just works flawlessly。 It doesn't get better than this。 In a word, Fantastic。 I love the setting, the characters are well crafted and feel real。 The action sequences flow very well, and the prose just works flawlessly。 It doesn't get better than this。 。。。more

Another great start of a series and an excellent book。 I。。。don't know how to write this review (again) but I'll just say that this story has awesome characters, in fact two of them are on my general list of favorite characters, an interesting plot although "simple" and "short" in a way that works as the first act of everything coming to us in the next books and。。。a warning: the magic system is not structured, I think it can be clasified as soft magic, so if you don't enjoy this kind of magic。。。m Another great start of a series and an excellent book。 I。。。don't know how to write this review (again) but I'll just say that this story has awesome characters, in fact two of them are on my general list of favorite characters, an interesting plot although "simple" and "short" in a way that works as the first act of everything coming to us in the next books and。。。a warning: the magic system is not structured, I think it can be clasified as soft magic, so if you don't enjoy this kind of magic。。。maybe you won't like this book as much as I and others did。Also, there are some。。。graphic descriptions。。。but also not truly graphic。。。and there's mentions of an abusive master-slave past relationship, nothing descriptive or a flashback, but the character (view spoiler)[ whose name is Roan shows a start of a panic attack and there are indirect shows of their struggle as a new free person (hide spoiler)] There are other character details Idk if could be triggering for someone, but to be safe。。。read with caution :)As a plus: all the characters, men and women, are awesome (even the antagonistic ones) and some have/develop incredible friendships Overall, I recommend Age of Myth a lot。 。。。more

This book is interesting and informative。 This book is an interesting interpretation of what the world was like in the beginning。 Michael J。 Sullivan uses Perspehone, God of the Underworld as a catalyst for change when she goes and talks to a tree。 The book starts with the the killing of a God and the clash between the old world and the new。 The concept that Gods can't die is dispelled in the beginning when Raithe kills a God with his own sword。 So the book begins with a dire prophecy from the t This book is interesting and informative。 This book is an interesting interpretation of what the world was like in the beginning。 Michael J。 Sullivan uses Perspehone, God of the Underworld as a catalyst for change when she goes and talks to a tree。 The book starts with the the killing of a God and the clash between the old world and the new。 The concept that Gods can't die is dispelled in the beginning when Raithe kills a God with his own sword。 So the book begins with a dire prophecy from the tree and the klling of a God but the two worlds mix with interesting consequences。 This book is a good fantasy but I am not really sure that the seasons mean directions but that may or may or not be true, Winter (North), Summer (South), Fall (West), Spring (East)。 The Rhunes (primitive) are human, The Fleury (technology) are Gods with powers to control nature but the two worlds mix。 I am glad that this book has a glossary。 It mixes Celtc myths, Roman and Greek mythology into one but I think each shared similarities and mythology crosses culture and has common threads so it think it is okay but you need to be able to keep the mythologies straight。 It is an interesting interpretation though。 Tis does include Grendel who is the God of Chains and he does seem to like to create chaos where he goes。 Gods can be killed and there are at least 2 that die in this book。 It is a good book and there is a lot of action but you have to learn a new language and it is written for young adult。 It is a good book。 。。。more

Another wonderful and amazing story by Mr。 Sullivan。 There isn't much action but the writing and story still draws you in。 You can tell this is building to something much bigger, planting a seed that will grow exponentially。 The characters are written so well。 You get humor in places you don't expect。 Mr。 Sullivan does no disappoint with his new venture。 Another wonderful and amazing story by Mr。 Sullivan。 There isn't much action but the writing and story still draws you in。 You can tell this is building to something much bigger, planting a seed that will grow exponentially。 The characters are written so well。 You get humor in places you don't expect。 Mr。 Sullivan does no disappoint with his new venture。 。。。more

I've read the Riyria Revelations Series and fell in love with it。 So, when I found out that Michael Sullivan wrote a new series, I just had to read it。 I was not disappointed。 The book had a great suspenseful plot, well-written characters and mind-blowing ending that makes you want to devour the next book in the series immediately。 The book was a page turner for sure I finished it in 3 days and only because I needed to eat and sleep, otherwise, it would have taken less time to finish it。 I've read the Riyria Revelations Series and fell in love with it。 So, when I found out that Michael Sullivan wrote a new series, I just had to read it。 I was not disappointed。 The book had a great suspenseful plot, well-written characters and mind-blowing ending that makes you want to devour the next book in the series immediately。 The book was a page turner for sure I finished it in 3 days and only because I needed to eat and sleep, otherwise, it would have taken less time to finish it。 。。。more
